The situation in Italy explained to Americans

The following text is taken from the speech given at the August 21, 2024 Coalition Meeting in Washington, D.C., at the headquarters of Americans for Tax Reform.

The conservative coalition in Italy has been in government since 2022 and is composed of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia, Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, now led by Tajani, and Matteo Salvini’s Lega.
The government is strong and we have already achieved some important goals.

Internationally, the Conservative government has cancelled the membership in the Belt and Road Initiative, signed by the previous leftist government. Italy was the only G7 country to have joined the chinese initiative, but now it has reaffirmed its Western position.
On the illegal immigration issue, after a difficult 2023, the government managed to reduce entries by more than 60 percent. The goal is to return to the slightly above zero illegal entries achieved when Salvini was Interior Minister.
We, in the League, achieved an important result with the approval in Parliament of Regional Autonomy, to make the Administration more “federal” and bring it closer to citizens.
Also important was the flat tax of 5% or 15% for the income of the self-employed up to €85,000 a year. We are working for its gradual and soonest extension to all Italian workers.

However, the left in Italy remains very deeply rooted in society, has significant influence over the judiciary, the school, the media and the mainstream. It is also part of the majority in the European Parliament, consisting of the People’s Party, Liberals and Socialists, as in the previous European term, joined by the Greens, shifting the political balance in the European Parliament even further to the left.
If Kamala Harris were to win the U.S. presidential election, she would also encourage an even stronger political direction in Europe toward green impositions, gender reassignment for minors, indiscriminate acceptance of migrants and the rest of the woke agenda.
Let us therefore all work to support Donald Trump’s candidacy for the U.S. presidency!

In the new European Parliament, elected last June, conservatives are divided into as many as three political groups: the Orban-founded Patriots, with 84 MEPs, ECR whose president is Giorgia Meloni, with 78 MEPs, and the Germany’s AFD-led Europe of Sovereign Nations, with 25 MEPs.
I hope that we can soon arrive at a single European Republican Party focused on our values: family, Christianity, less red tape and lower taxes. Its rallying words could be: peace and prosperity.
